plan your trip
Here are some informations you should know before you start planning your trip
moneyMartinique being a French island, the currency used is the Euro. Credit and debit cards are the most utilized form of payment. Even in markets you would be able to pay with a card. The only times they won't accept cards in some places is for small payments under 5 or 10 dollars. It's always useful to carry a few Euros on you, but big amounts are not necessary.

DrivingThe best way to move around the island is definitely by renting a car. The buses are unreliable and mainly stick to towns and main roads, meaning they won't bring you to the places you want to visit. The roads are very narrow and almost always in switchbacks up or down mountains so plan a lot more time than you would normally. Even though the island is small, it can take a while to get most places and there is a lot of traffic.

healthYou don't need any specific vaccines to visit Martinique, although I recommend being up to date on regular ones. The main health concern would be mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. Make sure to bring bug spray and some long clothes, mostly for sunsets and sunrises, and use the bug nets, available in most hotels and Airbnbs, to sleep.

articles about Martinique
Know before you go:cascades de didier, martiniqueThe French island of Martinique is filled with lush jungles, waterfalls and plenty of hiking and swimming opportunities, but when you research the best waterfall to hike to, you fall on Cascades de Didier very quickly. Unfortunately, the two waterfalls are located on private property, and because of that, the trail isn't clearly marked. There are also people who wonder if the site should be visited at all. The goal of this article is to give you all of the information so you can make your own decision.

10 activities you must do in martinique... and one you could pass onIn January of 2024, I visited Martinique with my parents for two-weeks. The beautiful French island of the Caribbean, although popular with French tourists, is really a hidden gem and still has an authentic Creole culture and wild jungles. It offers white sand beaches as well as black beaches, plenty of hikes for all levels, museums and cultural visits, waterfalls and so much more... I absolutely loved this trip and can't wait to share with you the activities that made it so special.
